KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has congratulated Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi and Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli for creating history by winning two gold medals and setting a new world record at the Rio Paralympics in Brazil.
Azmin said he will be discussing how the state will recognise and celebrate the achievements of Ziyad, who is from Selangor and resides in Gombak.
"I would like to say how excited and happy I and the people of Selangor are for a state athlete to clinch the gold medal – one who, coincidentally, is from Gombak," said Azmin, who is the Member of Parliament for Gombak.
"After Hari Raya Aidiladha, we will discuss how we will recognise state athletes who win gold.”
Azmin added that this victory is not only something for the people of Selangor to be proud of, but also the whole nation.
He said an announcement will soon be made on the form of token reward that will be given to athletes who succeed in making a name for both Malaysia and Selangor in the international arena.
Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi won the first gold medal on Sunday (Saturday in Rio de Janeiro) in the 100m T36 (celebral palsy) event, and Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli won the second gold and set a new world record in the men's shot put F20 (intellectual disability) event, also on Sunday.
