KUALA LUMPUR: Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali believes the group of Australian fans that stripped down to their underwear depicting the Malaysian flag, deserve to be 'locked up, investigated and taken action against'.
Razlan did not mince his words when describing how angry he was at how the fans, apparently overjoyed with the victory of their countryman Daniel Ricciardo at the Sepang circuit, had behaved.
"This shows a huge lack of respect to us as Malaysians; this is stupid behaviour from foreigners who have no sense of cultural sensitivity and respect," said Razlan.
"They deserve to be locked up, investigated and taken action against.
"It embarrasses their own country as well, it gives Australians a bad name.
"I am glad that citizens reported on it and that we do not allow such unruly behaviour in our country, especially at the circuit with Formula One being televised worldwide."
Razlan added that it is hard to prevent such incidents from happening, though he stressed that the circuit has and will continue to take quick action should such situations occur again.
"When thousands and thousands of people come to the track there is only so much we can do. It is hard for us to prevent things like this.
"There is a joke going around that next year we not only have to check their baggage but also their underwear.
"What is important is that we (through SIC security personnel) reacted quickly according to complaints received, took immediate action and handed them over to the police."
A total of 46,944 spectators had attended the Formula One race yesterday while 22,633 and 14,251 had come for the qualifying and practice sessions on Saturday and Friday.
The group were arrested for public indecency and disrespecting the national flag.
