KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has slammed the actions of a handful of the Red Shirt movement members for yesterday's attack on a Bersih 5.0 participant in Sabak Bernam.
Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, labeled the act as "irresponsible" and said it should not happen in a country which practises democracy.
"This incident is unacceptable. Anyone involved in violent acts must be condemned. I hope the police will take appropriate action against those responsible," Bernama quoted him as saying.
Khairy was speaking at a press conference after attending the finals of the Asics Badminton Challenge, in Petaling Jaya today.
In the incident, a Bersih supporter, riding a high-powered motorcycle, was reportedly attacked by a handful of Red Shirt supporters while passing through an area in Sabak Bernam.
The video clip of the incident subsequently went viral and earned the Red Shirt members condemnation over their violent act.
