KUALA LUMPUR: Cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque, fondly known as Zunar, was barred from leaving the country today.
Zunar, who was on his way to Singapore, claimed that he was stopped at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport by an immigration officer, under the directive of Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar. The officer claimed the ban has been effect since last June 24.
The cartoonist posted on his Twitter account, “I was stopped at KLIA from leaving Malaysia few minutes ago, under police instruction.”
Zunar was supposed to leave for Singapore for a forum.
“Even though I am facing nine charges under the Sedition Act, I am still not convicted since my case only starts on Nov 22.
“He has no right to bar me from leaving the country, I will file a legal challenge to remove the ban,” he said.
Zunar was accused of making nine seditious tweets which included alleged judicial bias and government intervention with PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial and conviction.
