Trapped for 3 days, paralysed elderly man rescued

NILAI: A paralysed elderly man was finally rescued by a team from the Fire and Rescue Department this morning after being trapped in his house for three days.

Wong Tian Suan, 73, believed to be living on his own, was found lying face down, after 10 firefighters, led by Senior Officer II Mohd Syazwan Saidy, broke the front door grill of his flat at Nilai Perdana here.

Mohd Syazwan said Nilai Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 11am from the victim’s daughter who is living in Seremban.

“His daughter informed us that her father had been trapped in the unit, located on the first floor, for three days,” he said.

“Together with the police, we managed to break the door grill and as soon as we got in, we found the man lying face down on the floor,” he said.

Mohd Syazwan said the victim, who suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure, was given immediate early medical treatment by a team from the Emergency Medical Response Service.

The victim was then sent to Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Seremban for further treatment.

As of press time, New Straits Times have yet to ascertain the circumstances leading up to the incident.
