Traders want Jalan Masjid India bazaar relocated

KUALA LUMPUR: Traders operating at the Modern Malay Bazaar at Jalan Masjid India here are seeking the authorities to relocate the bazaar to a location where their business will not be affected.

This follows a similar request by traders at Wisma Yakin for Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to relocate the bazaar as its current location is obstructing entrance to their business premises.

A trader dealing in gadget accessories, Rosli Md Lin, 53, hoped DBKL would not ignore the interests of the bazaar as they had been operating there for almost 20 years.

He said they had been informed by DBKL that the bazaar would be relocated, but since then there was no news on the matter.

“We are left in the dark, not knowing our position as traders here, and with the current economic situation, it is giving us pressure not knowing where we are going to be (relocated).

“I ask the good office of the relevant quarters to consider our plight and relocate us at a strategic location, like the area between Semua House and Mydin (at Jalan Bunus 6),” he told Bernama here today.

A shoe trader at the bazaar, Mek Zainab Man,49, said they had yet to receive an official notice from DBKL on the relocation, but had been made to understand that they would be relocated at either Jalan Tun Fatimah or Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman here.

Her only hope is that no matter where the location is, it will not be bad for their business.

“Prior to this, the bazaar was at Jalan Tun Fatimah where business was very bad.

“We are small traders, and if we are placed at isolated areas, people don’t go there.

“If we are relocated at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, we have to give way to the night market on Saturday and Sunday when most people would come out to shop,” she added.

Last Nov 3, Bernama reported that the Wisma Yakin Traders Association is seeking the authorities to relocate the bazaar in front of their building to another place.--BERNAMA
