PUTRAJAYA: Former permanent representative of Malaysia to the United Nations Datuk Ramlan Ibrahim has been appointed as the new Foreign Ministry's secretary-general effective Jan 1.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa announced this today, saying Ramlan, who joined the public service on Jan 3, 1983 had vast experiences in international relations and foreign affairs.
The 59-year-old new Foreign Ministry secretary-general has served as Malaysian ambassador to Bosnia Herzegovina and Korea.
"I believe with his credibility, knowledge and experiences, Ramlan can execute his new duties effectively, using dynamic and proactive diplomatic approaches," said Ali in a statement.
Ramlan, who had a Masters degree in International Relations from Webster University, took over the secretary-general post from Tan Sri Othman Hashim, who had retired on Dec 30.
