SHAH ALAM: A bikini photography contest, scheduled to be held at a Bangi waterpark this Feb 19, has been cancelled.
I Creative Event Sdn Bhd, the organiser of the Supermodel International Malaysia 2017 Bikini Photography Contest, when contacted today said the company's management made the decision to cancel the event this morning.
Prior to the cancellation, the event has been receiving complaints from several Islamic groups, including Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia's (Isma) Hulu Langat chapter, that described it as "challenging the sensitivity of Muslim-majority Bangi residents".
The organiser, however, insisted that the decision to cancel the event was not related to the protest.
An event executive, who only wanted to be identified as Vivian, said the cancellation had nothing to do with the objection.
"I just can't tell you why, it is the management's decision," she said.
"No, it does not have anything to do with the protest," she added when asked.
Earlier today, Isma' Hulu Langat chapter president Mohd Noor Azib Asmangi in a statement said the organiser was being insensitive towards Muslims residing in Bandar Baru Bangi.
Media reports also quoted Serdang Pas Youth chief Rosli Jusoh calling for all Muslim non-government organisations and community in Selangor to object the organising of the photoshoot.
