KUALA LUMPUR: Police today confirmed that a third suspect, a man, has been arrested in connection with the killing of Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the 26-year-old was arrested yesterday. The man is the boyfriend of the second female suspect, who had an Indonesian passport.
“The suspect is currently remanded in custody to assist investigations,” he said in a statement today.
Apart from the 26-year-old, two women have also been arrested in connection with the case. All three have been remanded for a week.
Reports have suggested that two female assassins were responsible for killing Jong-nam on Monday, just before he was due to board a flight to Macau at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2).
Jong-nam had said someone had wiped his face with a liquid substance, which left him dizzy. He had sought help from airport staff, who then summoned an ambulance for him.
However, he died on his way to the Putrajaya Hospital.
An autopsy was conducted. The authorities have stated that the body will be handed over to North Korean authorities.
