TAWAU: Police detained a man at the arrival hall of Tawau airport for suspected involvement in drug trafficking.
District police chief Assistant commissioner Fadil Marsus said the 46-year-old man was carrying a black luggage bag and a sling bag during his arrest at about 10.45am yesterday.
"Police found two boxes labelled 'Bird's nest with rock sugar', and another labelled 'Impulse sealer' kept with clothes in the luggage.
"Five packages wrapped in foil were found in the boxes, which contained a crystal-clear substance believed to be syabu," he said in a statement.
The drug weighed about five kilogrammes as is valued at about RM350,000.
The man, who is a cyber cafe operator from Selangor, tested positive for methamphetamines and has a criminal record for an offence in 2012.
He has been remanded for seven days, starting today, and will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty if found guilty.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din also tweeted about the case yesterday and congratulated district police on the arrest.
