MALACCA: Police will be calling in notorious "Raja Bomoh Sedunia", or Ibrahim Mat Zin, to have his statement recorded on his most recent shamanistic display outside the mortuary of Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), in front of the international media.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the self-styled “International King of Shamans’” antics are against the culture and religion of Muslims in Malaysia, and this has prompted several parties to lodge police reports against him.
"Based on the reports we received, we will initiate an investigation (to determine if Ibrahim) has breached existing laws.
"(But) there is no need to issue a warrant of arrest, as we know exactly where to look for him," said Khalid.
He was speaking to reporters at the "Kembara Sang Saka Biru" programme in conjunction with the 210th Police Day at Jalan Merdeka, in Banda Hilir, here today.
Khalid said Ibrahim will be summoned Under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).
On Saturday, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, tweeted that the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) and the police have been looking for Ibrahim since March 13.
Dr Asyraf said that Ibrahim was tarnishing the image of Islam and urged the public not to share video clips of his 'rituals', to avoid them going viral and shaming the nation further.
The controversial shaman’s recent display at HKL was purportedly meant to defend Malaysia against North Korean attack – and videos of his stunt went viral on social media.
Ibrahim gained international notoriety after performing his 'coconut ritual' in 2014 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, claiming that he could help locate missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
