KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd has apologised to commuters for the disruption of service on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line last night, which left thousands here stranded.
“We had a fault in a component of the signalling and communication equipment at the Vehicle Control Centre at approximately 8pm, disrupting the operations of the 43 trains along the LRT Kelana Jaya Line.
“As a result of the fault and service disruption, we had to identify and account for all the trains and deploy our operations team members on-board each of the trains, which operate without drivers under normal circumstances,” said Rapid Rail Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir Zohari Sulaiman.
Once the trains were accounted for and operations team members were on-board, the trains were safely and manually driven to the nearest stations from 9.15pm for customers to disembark, he said in a statement today.
He added that since the trains had to be manually driven between 9.15pm until the end of operations, the waiting times were extended.
“As the trains were driven manually, they had to operate at lower speed and dwelled slightly longer at the stations to ensure a safe distance between the trains,” said Zohari, adding that fourteen buses were deployed to ferry customers from major stations.
He said announcements were regularly made on board trains, at stations and on social media, to keep customers updated.
Auxiliary police and operations team members were also deployed to manage the crowd and movement of customers.
Raid Rail also offered refund coupons to customers who sought alternative travels arrangements.
“Again, we wish to extend our sincere apologies to our customers whose travels were interrupted by the incident, said Zohari.
Operations on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line are now back to normal.
