Pusada army corporal nabbed for allegedly extorting recruits

PORT DICKSON: An army corporal was arrested yesterday for allegedly extorting money from 24 recruits in Mambau here.

State deputy police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Zaki Harun said the suspect, who served in the Army Basic Training Centre (Pusada) in Port Dickson, was arrested at his house at 3.30am.

“A probe into the case is ongoing. Early investigations showed that several other people are also involved, and they will be detained soon,” he said.

It is learnt that the victims were approached by the suspect, who was clad in his uniform, upon their arrival at the Seremban train station on March 31, at 3.15pm.

After driving the recruits to Port Dickson in a van, the suspect then forced the victims to hand over their money and mobile phones, before leaving them at a petrol station in Jalan Pantai.
