YAN: The Islamic Religious office here is investigating reports that Shia teachings are being spread in several areas in the district.
Yan district Islamic religious officer Syeikh Zainul Mukhtar Abdullah Sirajuddin said his office has identified several individuals of interest and will hand information on them to the state Islamic Religious Department for action.
"Shia teachings are being spread here by a small group of people over 40 years of age.
"We received the information from residents of villages where the group had allegedly spread their Shia beliefs," he said during a dialogue at the Jerai constituency here today.
Zainul declined to reveal the locations identified, as the department is still carrying out its investigations.
