Four, including 2 doctors charged with issuing fake health certificates

GEORGE TOWN: Four men including two doctors were charged at the Sessions Court here today with issuing medical health certificates to public transportation drivers without them having to go through proper health check procedures.

Lim Geok Huat, 54, Chan Ah Kow, 57, were charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code that is punishable under Section 465 of the Penal Code.

If found guilty, the duo face up to two years imprisonment or a fine or both.

Meanwhile, Dr Kamal Fasha Hussain, 54 and Dr See Teik Guan, 48, were charged under Section 415 of the Penal Code which is read together with Section 28(1)(a) of the SPRM Act 2009 that is punishable under Section 417 of the Penal Code.

If convicted they face a maximum of five year prison sentence and a fine or both.

The doctors were alleged to have issued the certificates to public transport drivers wanting to renew their Public Service Vehicle Licence (PSVL) without having to undergo a health check.

Lim and Chan were said to be the ‘runners’ in the case.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s prosecuting officer Ahmad Ghazali Muhamad Nadzri prosecuted all the cases.

Ahmad Ghazali requested for bail to be set at RM10,000 each.

Lawyers CP Ang represented Lim, Jason Khor Jit Sheng represented Dr Kamal Fasha and Dr See Teik Guan while Lawyer RSN Rayer represented Chan.

In mitigation, all lawyers requested that the court reduce the bail amount offered by Ahmad Ghazali.

The court allowed a RM6,000 for each of the accused and set 14 July for mention of the case.
