KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating English daily, The Star over its controversial front page published on Saturday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said two investigation papers have been opened under the Sedition Act and the Penal Code following numerous police reports received by the force.
“We will call in those who are responsible for the controversial frontpage and investigate as to why the publication placed such headline with a picture of Muslims performing terawih prayers,” he said.
Khalid said this after attending the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) presentation of Hari Raya goodies to the security forces, at Bangunan Bakti Siti Hasmah, today.
Yesterday, the Home Ministry handed a show-cause letter to the newspaper on its publication of an article titled "Malaysian Terrorist Leader" on its frontpage, together with the photograph of Muslims performing the terawih prayers.
Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim said The Star was given seven days to reply the letter on why action should not be taken against the newspaper under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.
The Star, on Sunday, has issued an apology following wide criticisms for its frontpage.
