ALOR STAR: A 25-year-old woman accidentally stabbed herself in the stomach during a scuffle with her 17-year-old boyfriend following a heated argument in Taman Desa Kubang Rotan here on Saturday.
The victim, Nor Shazuani Zainol, said her boyfriend was jealous that she had made a phone call to another man and began arguing with her in the 3.30am incident.
“It began as a verbal argument, but he started hitting me so I took out a knife from the kitchen to fend him off.
“However, he tried to grab the knife and during the scuffle I accidently stabbed myself,” Nor Shazuani said when met at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) this afternoon.
She received four stitches to close a cut on her waist, while her boyfriend also sustained injuries to his left palm and shoulder.
Nor Shazuani said she and the boy, who works as a lorry attendant, began dating a month ago.
Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rozi Jidin said police picked up the boy at his house in Kampung Keloncor, Kubang Rotan yesterday following a report lodged by Shazuani's stepfather, who suspected that the boy had stabbed her.
“The boy is remanded until July 12 to facilitate an investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means,” Mohd Rozi said.
The offense carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years upon conviction.
