KUCHING: Twenty-six people were held during a seven-day statewide crackdown against online gambling and illegal lottery (4D) that ended on Christmas Eve, said Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar.
“Eighteen raids were conducted against counters selling 4D, which resulted in the arrested of 21 people. The raiding party seized RM2,259, mobile phones, portable printers, calculators, betting slips and stationery.”
Efforts to eradicate online gambling continued with raids on 24-hour convenience stores and shops offering reload services to online gamblers.
“Four raids were conducted and led to the arrests of five service providers as well as the seizure of five tablets, mobile phones and RM946,” he said.
Dev said the raid were conducted in Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Padawan, Bau, Sri Aman, Saratok, Sarikei, Sibu, Song, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
The suspects, aged between 16 and 49, were arrested under the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
