SEREMBAN: A babysitter was charged at the Magistrate’s court here today with the murder of a toddler under her care here, last month.
Asmarani Ghazali, 39, was accused of murdering a two-year-old baby at her house in Taman Tuanku Jaafar here between 9.30am and 10am on June 13.
Clad in an orange lock-up attire and blue head scarf, the accused was seen crying after the charge was read by the court interpreter before Magistrate Mahyun Yusof.
No plea was recorded.
Asmarani was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
The court set July 31 for re-mention pending post-mortem report.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Akmal Muhammad Azri prosecuted while the accused was represented by Datuk Hanif Hassan.
When met outside the court, Hanif said he would submit a representation to the Attorney-General’s Chambers to drop or reduce the charge which would provide for a lighter punishment.
In the 13 June incident, the victim, who suffered from breathing difficulties, was rushed to Tuanku Jaafar Hospital here by the babysitter and her husband before he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
