Selangor police seize RM27.8mil worth of syabu, state's biggest drug haul [NSTTV]

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have seized 556.2 kilogrammes of syabu, worth RM27.8 million from a drug syndicate on Friday, in their biggest haul so far this year.

The drug syndicate, which had only been active for about three months, thought it could outsmart the police by renting an unassuming intermediate terrace house in Subang Mewah as a store and distribution point.

Little did they know that investigators from the Selangor Narcotics Crime Investigation Department had been watching them for days.

A raid was conducted at the house on Friday at 3pm, some 18 days since the syndicate rented the property.

Selangor police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said a total of 540 packets of syabu, sealed in Chinese tea packaging, were found in the living room and in a multi-purpose vehicle parked at the porch.

“The raiding team found 85 packets with syabu weighing 87.55 kilogrammes in the living room and 455 packets weighing 468.6 kilogrammes in a Toyota Alphard. A 1kg packet is worth about RM50,000 in the local market and double if sold overseas.

“It is meant for local and export market to countries such as Taiwan, Korea and Indonesia where it can be supplied to 2.7 million drug users.

“Two syndicate members - an 18-year-old Sarawakian, who works as a convenience store assistant and an unemployed man, aged 28, have been arrested,” said Noor Azam, adding that the second suspect had a past drug record.

He said a Proton Exora, worth RM50,000, which was rented by the syndicate was also confiscated.

Noor Azam said this in a Press conference at the Selangor police contingent headquarters.

He added that both suspects have been remanded for seven days until Friday to be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking dangerous drugs.
