BATU GAJAH: A 34-year-old man was detained on suspicion of molesting an eight-months-pregnant woman at her home in Taman Pusing Utusan, Pusing here, yesterday.
The 27-year-old woman claimed that she was opening her door grille at 8am when the man – a stranger to her – ran towards her, gripped her wrists and covered her mouth.
He then allegedly told her to keep her mouth shut before shoving her into her house, causing her to fall onto her side.
"The man then rubbed the victim's buttocks with his hands. The victim begged him to let her go and the man only did so when she told him that she is pregnant.
"Before he left, he asked the woman about her husband and who she lives with, but the victim remained silent. He only left after the victim's neighbour emerged outside," said district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri.
He said that an initial investigation revealed that the man had been stalking the victim for quite some time, and even rented a house in the same neighbourhood.
"The victim later went to the Batu Gajah Hospital here for a check-up. Her wrists were swollen, but she and the baby are safe," he said.
Ahmad Adnan added that the man, who is married, was arrested at 4.40pm, a few hours after the incident.
"The man has no criminal record and he is being remanded for three days beginning today," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or criminal force to a person with intent to outrage modesty.
