Five detained for travelling interstate without permit, identification documents

BERA: Policemen manning a Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) roadblock at Km49 Jalan Temerloh-Bahau near here yesterday were taken by surprise when they flagged down a pick-up truck for inspection.

The five individuals travelling in the vehicle appeared clueless when asked about their interstate travel permit while four of them who were Pakistan nationals did not have any identification documents.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mansor Samsudin said the police team had stopped the vehicle to inspect their travel permit about 3.45pm.

"The driver, a local man could not provide the police permission document. They were allegedly travelling from Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan to Maran in Pahang.

"The four foreigners did not have any documents with them. Investigations revealed the five men were working in the same factory in Gemencheh and were travelling to Maran to repair a boiler machine," he said in a statement today.

He said the 23-year-old car driver from Sabah and the four foreigners aged between 30 and 38 were sent to a health clinic for Covid-19 screening before they were detained.

"Initial investigations revealed they might have been trying their luck to travel interstate. The driver has been remanded for four days while the others will be detained for 14 days to facilitate investigations," he said, adding the vehicle was registered to an individual staying in Selangor.

Mansor said the suspects will be investigated for violating the RMCO standard operating procedures, while the four men will be also investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid travel documents. The car driver is being investigated for bringing a person into Malaysia unlawfully.
