841 people arrested for violating MCO SOP

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested 841 people for violating the Movement Control Order standard operating procedures (SOP) yesterday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 170 people were arrested for crossing states and districts without permission as well as dining in.

Other offences included failure to observe physical distancing with 165 cases; not wearing facemasks (157 cases), not registering before entering premises (103 cases), ferrying beyond permitted number of passengers (87 cases), disobeying movement control restrictions (91 cases) and engaged in activities at entertainment outlets (32 cases).

He said 821 were issued compounds while 20 were remanded.

"Yesterday, the Compliance Operation Task Force led by police inspected 99,153 premises for SOP compliance, nationwide," he said in a statement today.

He said four land vehicles and three boats were seized under Op Benteng, adding that security forces had mounted 952 roadblocks nationwide.

Ismail Sabri also said the task force had so far ordered 90 factories to close for SOP violations after conducting inspections on 404 such premises.

"The Fire and Rescue Department and the local council officers have carried out 171 sanitising operations in 83 red zones, five orange zones and six yellow zones yesterday.

"There were 556 people who returned to Malaysia via international gates and have been ordered to undergo mandatory quarantine at designated centres," he said.

Ismail Sabri said at present there were 8,045 returnees observing the mandatory quarantine at 77 hotels as well as 10 public training centres and private educational institutes.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry had inspected 860 business premises including 673 grocers, 155 wholesalers, and 55 manufacturers.

"They also carried out special checks at 1,397 shops and compounded 15 premises for failing to follow the SOP."
