KOTA KINABALU: A man from Selangor was freed by the Sessions Court here today from a charge of insulting the modesty of PKR vice-president, Mohd Rafizi Ramli back in 2018.
Daing Muhammad Reduan Bachok, 37, was discharged and acquitted without his defence being called.
Judge Marlina Ibrahim ordered for Daing to be released after ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against him.
Daing was accused of uttering words intended to insult the modesty of Rafizi, 44, on Nov 3, 2018 at 4pm at a community centre in Kampung Merampong, Keningau.
The offence under Section 509 of the Penal Code provides a maximum five years' jail or fine, or both upon conviction.
Eight prosecution witnesses were called to testify against Daing since the trial commenced on Sept 14 last year.
Counsel Amli Nohin defended Daing while Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Faezah Jafry prosecuted.
