PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Razak's lead counsel Hisyam Teh Pok Teik said the defence was saddened by the Federal Court's verdict today.
"We are very sad, and seek comfort and solace in the fact that only the Almighty can dispense the ultimate and perfect justice," Hisyam who appeared dejected said after Najib was ordered to serve out his 12-year jail sentence today.
Hisyam declined to comment further when asked if he would be filing a review of the verdict.
He however informed that he would discuss the matter with his team, and did not discount the possibility of doing so.
Najib lost in his final attempt to overturn the 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine for misappropriation of RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.
Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat ruled that the former prime minister had failed to show how the findings of the lower courts were perverse and needed the intervention of the Apex Court.
She said the decisions of the High Court and Court of Appeal were correct. Tengku Maimun said the sentences were also not manifestly excessive.
