PEKAN: A 35-year-old teacher here lost RM95,100 after being duped with a part-time job offer at an e-commerce platform.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the victim joined a group that offered part-time work on a Telegram platform.
He then received a short message via WhatsApp from a phone number that was provided on the platform.
"The victim was offered part-time work through WhatsApp by clicking on a link on the Telegram application that was given by the syndicate starting on Dec 23 with supposed return in profits after making an initial investment.
"Thereafter the victim completed a few tasks and transactions from Dec 23-28 to a few different accounts with the aim of obtaining the next round of profits.
"After doing all the transactions, the victims realised that he had been duped because he did not get the return in money as promised," he said via a statement today.
With such a case in mind, Zaidi advised members of the public to be very careful and not be easily duped in making decisions and accepting job offers from anyone online.
"We must be very careful and cautious so as to avoid becoming a victim of such dubious job offers on so-called e-commerce or social media platforms," he said.
