SELAYANG: The police officer known as "Inspector Sheila" has been charged at two separate magistrate's courts here, this morning.
S. K. Sheila Sharon, 35, pleaded not guilty to two charges before Magistrate Chai Guan Hock and one charge before Magistrate Nur Hafizah Rajuni.
Sheila, who is the investigating officer of Bukit Aman Criminal Commercial Investigation Department, was accused before Magistrate Chai, for making criminal threats with an intention to intimidate a 69-year-old woman at a restaurant located in Taman Sri Gombak, within the Gombak district on June 15 around noon.
This charge was framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code that carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both upon conviction.
She was also charged with one count of insulting the modesty of a 41-year-old man by telling him that he is ugly, fat, and (a) rhinoceros, at the same location, an hour later (1pm) on the same day and location.
This charge was framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code which provides imprisonment for a term that may extend to five years or with a fine or both, upon conviction
Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Nur Iman Wan Ahmad Afzal suggested for the court to offer RM8,000 bail on the accused.
However, Sheila's lawyer M. Manoharan pleaded for the magistrate to issue a bond on the accused instead, on account that she is a serving police officer who has been with the force since 2016, with a kickboxing-trained certificate.
He also said that the accused was just looking to discipline the two individuals and that Sheila's father was a former police officer who had served the force for 39 years.
The Magistrate then ordered RM3,000 bail on the accused and fixed Aug 7 for mention.
Subsequently, Sheila was accused before Magistrate Nur Hafizah for intimidating a male police officer of a lance corporal rank with intent to insult his modesty around 1.25pm also at the same location and date with the previous charges.
The charge was also framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Anis Farhah Ahmad Hilmi suggested for the court to order RM5,000 bail on the accused.
However, Manoharan pleaded for the Magistrate to tie the bail with the previous case before Chai.
Nur Hafizah then ordered RM2,000 bail on the accused and also fixed Aug 7 for mention.
Manoharan, when met after today's proceeding, said that initially, he was informed that there were a total of six charges to be brought against Sheila.
However, he said, three of the cases were dropped.
