JOHOR BARU: A Malaysian man who attempted to smuggle in methamphetamine by packing them in condoms before inserting it in his anus was arrested by the Bali Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) on Thursday (Sept 14).
The suspect, a Johorean, was arrested at the Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Indonesia, when the Ngurah Rai Customs, Excise Supervision and Service officers conducted checks on him, reported online news portal detikbali.
The Bali Province National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) officers seized four packs of contraband packed in condoms weighing more than 40 grams each.
It was reported that the man had attempted to conceal the methamphetamine by inserting them in his anus instead of swallowing them, a method usually used by drug mule 'body-packers'.
The term "body packer" describes a drug mule who conceals illicit substances packages in condoms before swallowing them to carry them across international borders.
The narcotics officers seized the illicit substance, and the suspect believed to be a drug mule, is currently under the BNNP custody to facilitate investigations.
Earlier, it was reported that the Indonesia National Narcotics Agency, in their fight against drug traffickers, had issued a directive to conduct stringent checks on suspicious individuals entering the country via its airports.
