KUALA LUMPUR: Negri Sembilan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have detained four public medical personnel on suspicion of soliciting and receiving bribes totaling approximately RM100 to RM600, with a total amount of about RM11,000 in return for offering mortuary management work (for the handling of non-Muslim bodies) at a hospital in the state.
Sources report that three male suspects and one female suspect, aged between their 30s and 50s, were believed to have been detained between approximately 4pm and 7pm yesterday at the Negri Sembilan MACC office when requested to provide statements.
He said all suspects working at the same hospital were believed to have received bribes involving about 42 bank transactions from two companies offering mortuary management services between 2022 and 2023.
Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra bin Awg Ismail, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
He said all four suspects would be brought in for a remand application at the Seremban Criminal Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
