Tour guide arrested for alleged sexual harassment of tourists while snorkeling and fishing

SEMPORNA: A tour guide was arrested by the police after being suspected of sexually harassing two foreign female tourists on a resort island, here, yesterday.

Semporna District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the 27-year-old male suspect was arrested at 7.30 last night, following a report made by both victims at 4.30pm.

He said that based on the testimony of the 18 and 22 year old victims, the incident occurred while they were fishing and snorkeling on the resort island.

"The first incident allegedly happened when they were fishing at about 10.12am while the next incident happened at 3.30pm while doing snorkeling activities.

"The victim claimed that while fishing, the suspect had touched her breast and rubbed his private parts against the victim's thigh, as well as repeating the same act while doing snorkeling activities," he said in a statement.

Mohd Farhan added that further investigation found that the suspected male illegal immigrant did not have any identification documents or valid work permits.

Following the arrest, the police also arrested a manager of the tourism company where the suspect worked under the suspicion of employing foreign workers without valid documents and permits.

"Both of them were remanded for four days until Oct 27 for further investigation in accordance with Section 354 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act while the manager of the company involved was investigated in accordance with Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said.
