KUALA LUMPUR: Police have called on convicted murderer Sirul Azhar Umar to file a report regarding his allegation that he was offered RM1 million from unnamed sources to keep quiet about the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said Sirul's latest bombshell revelation was unfair to the government, given the issue of bribery was never raised by Sirul nor his accomplice, Azilah Hadri, in any of their court proceedings.
"He has gone through court proceedings in three layers: High Court, Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court.
"He was given the opportunity at these three levels, but neither he nor his lawyer had ever mentioned anything regarding the offering of this money.
"If indeed it happened (he was offered money), Sirul or his lawyer can lodge a report, and we will conduct the investigation," he said, adding that Azilah too had never raised such a statement in any of his court proceedings.
Sirul in an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera 101 East yesterday said he was offered about RM1 million by his lawyer, Datuk Hasnal Rezua Merican to produce a video stating former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's has no involvement in the murder.
Hasnal, yesterday, however denied Sirul's claim.
Sirul also claimed that he received some money from unnamed sources to keep his mouth shut on the murder and to protect Najib. He also admitted to never having paid his lawyers or legal fees.
