KUALA LUMPUR: The police check on an Instagram account under the name of "Muhammad Imran Suresh" revealed that it was a fake account.
Federal Criminal Investigations Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the account was seen trying create negative perceptions regarding the acid attack on national and Selangor FC footballer Faisal Halim.
"After our investigation, we found that the Instagram account in question is fake.
"We are monitoring social media accounts with the assistance of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
"We cannot allow any individual to take advantage and disrupt the situation," he told a press conference today.
He said the police had yet to receive any report regarding any social media accounts that have sparked speculation and spread hatred towards any football players.
"We have identified several social media accounts and we found that these accounts sometimes exist and sometimes do not.
"If we find that they continue to speculate irresponsibly, we will call them in and if there are reports, we will investigate," he said.
Earlier, it was reported that the police were searching for the owner of a social media account by the name of Muhammad Imran Suresh in relation to a statement made about the acid attack Faisal.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the individual claimed to have information related to the incident.
