KUALA LUMPUR: The police Forensics Unit lifted eight fingerprints at the scene of national footballer Faisal Halim's acid attack in Petaling Jaya.
However, only three of the prints could be categorised as having sufficiently met all the requirements for them to be used.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said this had somewhat hindered investigations into the case.
"Using the three fingerprints, we compared them with those in our database system. However, no matches turned up.
"This could be because the individual involved has never been detained and therefore does not have a criminal record.
"We have already released a photofit of the suspect in the acid attack case and we urge those who may know the man's identity or have any information about him to come forward to help us track him down," he told reporters.
Razarudin said the suspect is believed to be in his 30s, with an estimated height of about 165cm, has a medium build and has a tanned complexion.
Anyone with information on his identity or whereabouts can contact Classified Crimes Investigation Unit investigating officer Inspector Jagachandaran Murugesen at 012-5848166 or 03-22666071.
Previously, federal police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Shuhaily Mohd Zain had said checks of closed-circuit television camera footage had shown that Faisal's assailant had touched several surfaces at the scene of the attack.
The police Forensics Unit were reported to have lifted several prints from the places where the assailant was seen as having placed his hands.
Faisal, who plays for Malaysian Super League club Selangor FC, suffered serious acid burns to several parts of his body and face when he was attacked outside a major shopping mall in Petaling Jaya on May 5.
He has had to undergo surgery and is expected to have to go through several more, but is reported to be responding well to skin grafts.
