KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyer Mahmud Jumaat says he no longer represents the mother of slain autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin.
"Yes, I no longer represent Zayn Rayyan's mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf.
"My duty ends here. May there be justice for the deceased. #Justice4ZaynRayyan," he told Harian Metro.
Zayn Rayyan, six, was murdered last year. His parents were later charged in court with neglect in a way that could have likely caused him physical injury.
Zayn Rayyan's parents' court case is up for mention today.
Issues surrounding the lawyers representing the couple have caught the public's attention. On June 4, Mahmud announced that he no longer represented Zayn Rayyan's parents, citing "unavoidable reasons".
However, three days later, Ismanira's family came forward to clarify, saying that they had indeed agreed to appoint Mahmud to represent her from the beginning.
On June 13, Ismanira and Zayn Rayyan's father, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, both 29, pleaded not guilty to a charge of neglecting their son in a way that could likely cause physical injury.
Zayn Rayyan's body was found in a stream near the family home at Idaman Apartments in Damansara Damai on Dec 6 last year, after being reported missing the previous day.
