"I did not mean to do it" says man charged with raping his daughter [WATCH]

KOTA BARU: A rubber tapper was charged at the Sessions Court here today with two counts of raping his 14-year-old daughter at a house in Kuala Krai here last Sunday.

"I did not mean to rape my daughter," the 44-year-old accused after he pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him by the court interpreter before Judge Zulkifli Abllah.

According to the charge sheet, the man was accused of raping and sexually assaulting her daughter, who is now 14 years old and 11 months.

He was accused of committing both offences at a house in Kampung Sungai Sam in Kuala Krai at around 5am.

The man was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code for raping his daughter, which carries the maximum of 30 years' jail and 10 strokes of whipping if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.

Earlier, the accused, who is a father of three, appealed leniency on the grounds that he did not mean to commit the offence.

Ahmad Faiz Fitri, however, proposed to the court to not grant any bail since the offence is a serious case and the victim is the daughter of the accused.

The court did not allow bail and fixed Aug 28 for mention.

In another case at the same court, a lorry driver claimed trial today to two counts of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in Kampung Pinggir Tapang last Saturday.

Mohd Irwan Ismail, 41, was charged with committing both offences in a lorry by the roadside at the village at around noon.

For the first charge, Irwan was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

As for the second offence, the accused was charged under Section 15(a) of the same Act, which carries the maximum 10 years' jail and a fine of up to RM20,000 or both if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Edabayu Subhan did not offer any bail. Lawyer Nik Mohamed Nik Abdullah represented the accused.

The court later fixed Aug 28 for mention.
