KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate known as Geng Potek with the arrest of a 40-year-old man and his three nephews in Kota Tinggi, Johor.
The four were among eight people arrested during an early morning raid by Kota Tinggi police.
The syndicate was operating out of an abandoned hut at the mouth of Sungai Papan, where they would repackage drugs sourced from outside the area.
Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Hussin Zamora said during the raid, police seized various types of drugs, packaging equipment, vehicles and cash worth RM84,573.
The drugs seized included heroin, crystal methamphetamine, Erimin 5 pills, ecstasy pills, ketamine, and cannabis.
The amount of drugs seized was enough to be used by 6,000 addicts.
The eight people arrested comprise seven men and a woman aged between 19 to 51.
The woman is the girlfriend of the 40-year-old man, who is the syndicate's leader.
His three nephews are siblings.
All of those arrested were taken into custody. Seven of the suspects tested positive for drugs, and five have drug-related criminal records.
Hussin said the raid was conducted after two months of surveillance. The syndicate is believed to have operated since May.
The suspects have been remanded until Tuesday. The case is being probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act for trafficking.
