KUALA LUMPUR: A 15-year-old boy drowned after falling into a river near the Muhibah people's housing programme flats here this evening.
A Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Services Department spokesman said a distress call was received at 3.40pm and a team was immediately deployed to the scene.
"A total of 12 rescuers from the Bukit Jalil and Hang Tuah stations rushed to the scene to locate the boy. Six water rescue team members were also roped in to help in the search and rescue operation," he said.
An eyewitness at the scene told rescuers that the teenager was believed to have accidentally fallen into the river while fishing.
The spokesman said rescuers found the teen's body about 5.45pm and surrendered it to police.
