KUALA LUMPUR: Two lawyers have been questioned over the graft investigation related to a housing project in Pahang worth nearly RM110 million.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that two lawyers were summoned to facilitate investigations into the case.
"I can confirm we summoned two lawyers for questioning in connection with the Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) case.
"There will be no remand on the two individuals," he said when contacted today.
It was reported that the MACC had detained three individuals, including a Datuk who is a former officer at SPNB's wholly-owned subsidiary.
An MACC source said the three were detained following allegations of accepting bribes related to a housing project worth nearly RM110 million.
A five-day remand order, starting from July 30 to Aug 3, was also issued by magistrate Irza Zulaikha Burhanuddin for all the suspects, aged between 40 and 60, following an application by the MACC at the Putrajaya magistrate's court.
The three suspects, along with another individual, are believed to have received bribes from a construction company in exchange for conspiring to sign a supplementary development agreement related to the Aspirasi Rakyat Housing Development Project in Kuantan, without the approval of SPNB's board of directors.
The agreement is also believed to have contained unfair clauses, resulting in SPNB suffering losses amounting to tens of millions of ringgit.
