Former travel agent charged with selling unlicensed umrah packages, could face jail time

KUALA LUMPUR: A former travel agent pleaded not guilty in the magistrate's court here today to charges of offering umrah packages without a valid licence from the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry.

Nur Zaidani Akmal Abd Majid, 40, is accused of committing the offence at a bank in Pusat Bandar Utara, Sentul, at 10.11pm on Dec 10, 2022.

The mother of six was charged under Section 5(2) of the Tourism Industry Act 1992, which carries a maximum penalty of a RM50,000 fine, up to five years imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan granted Nur Zaidani Akmal bail of RM3,800 with one surety. The court has fixed Sept 6 for the next case mention.

Prosecuting Officer ASP Nom Phot Prackdit represented the prosecution, while Nur Zaidani Akmal was represented by lawyer Lejerod Limpuong.
