KUALA SELANGOR: A total of 676 foreign nationals were detained by the police in Ijok, Bestari Jaya, here, today.
The detainees consisted of 665 men and 11 women.
The raid was conducted by 277 personnel from the Kuala Selangor district police headquarters from 4.30pm yesterday to 2.30am today.
Acting district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Ambia Nordin said the operation was conducted following complaints from residents about the influx of foreign nationals.
He said the operation was the result of a month-long investigation by the Special Branch.
"Most of those detained work in the construction sector, as grocery store employees, factory workers and small-scale illegal vendors."
Ambia said the foreign nationals, mostly from Bangladesh and Myanmar, were in their 30s and 40s.
They were taken to the district police headquarters for documentation processing.
