KUALA LUMPUR: Nine women and 18 men, all foreigners, were detained after the Immigration Department raided a nightclub here early today.
The nightclub, located along Jalan Sultan Ismail, allegedly caters only to "elite" patrons and offers entertainment halls for between RM10,000 and RM16,000 per session.
It was learned that the club only accepted regular customers and only offered membership for those with over RM100,000 in their bank accounts.
Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said his personnel conducted Op Gegar at around 2am on Friday.
"We raided the nightclub following complaints from the public about questionable activities being held at the premises.
"During the raid, we checked 50 individuals including workers and patrons.
"We detained 27 foreigners during these checks," he told reporters when met at the scene.
He added that eight of the women detained were China nationals while the remaining woman was from Kazakhstan.
"The men detained comprise nine China nationals, five Bangladeshis, three Pakistanis and a man from Cambodia," he said adding that among the offences detected were misuse of visitor passes and not having valid documents.
A few hours earlier, Wan Mohammed Saupee said they conducted Op Pintu involving a raid at an apartment in Sentul at around 12.15am.
"A total of 36 personnel were involved in the operation on 25 apartment units there.
"We checked 102 people and arrested 38 foreigners comprising 29 men and nine women," he said adding that the offences detected included not having valid documents and overstaying.
He said the operation was conducted following two weeks of surveillance on the area.
"The operation was conducted following a public tipoff. We urge the public to refrain from employing or sheltering illegal immigrants," he said.
He added that checks revealed that those detained worked as construction workers, security guards, maids, and in the service sector.
