Drone loaded with drugs found at Perak prison

TAPAH: Authorities intercepted a bold attempt to smuggle suspected drugs into a prison using a drone.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said that the Tapah District Police Headquarters received a tip-off from a prison staff member around 5pm yesterday on the incident.

The staff member discovered the drone on the roof of a prison block during a routine patrol at approximately 11.30am.

"Upon inspection, police found a laundry bag attached to the drone," Azizi said.

Further examination revealed a transparent plastic packet containing three smaller packets of white powder, which is suspected to be heroin.

"The heroin weighed about 122 grams. The two additional packets contained crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, totaling an estimated 12.9 grams," he added.

Azizi noted that this is the first reported instance of a drone being used to smuggle drugs into a prison.

The case is under investigation for violations of Section 39B and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
