ALOR STAR: A 33-year-old jobless man from Kuala Ketil, Baling claimed that he has lost RM174,270 to a fake investment scheme.
Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief Superintendent Loi Yew Lik said the man claimed that his friend introduced him to the Pt Sentratama Investor Future foreign exchange scheme in 2018.
"On Dec 5, 2018, the complainant started investing RM10,000 in the scheme.
"The complainant claimed he then made 21 investment transactions totalling RM174,270. He was promised that he would reap the profits after a month, but until the day the police report was lodged, the complainant had not received any returns from the investment scheme.
"The complainant felt that he was cheated and lodged a police report about 5.49pm on Monday," he said in a statement today.
Loi said investigations revealed that the investment scheme was a scam that used the name of an international investment firm to dupe their victims.
He urged the public to be cautious of investment schemes that offered lucrative returns.
Loi also advised the public to verify investment schemes with the Security Commission and https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my.
