KUALA LUMPUR: The police have refuted claims made by a TikTok user, accusing the police of failing to investigate 14 reports lodged over the past two years.
The Commercial Crime Investigation Department said the reports, which were filed by Shakib Abu Bakar Banafee (who is believed to be related to the individual in the TikTok video) and four others, were investigated thoroughly.
CCID director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf confirmed this, saying that two investigation papers were opened under the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust (Section 409), while another for cheating (Section 420).
"The investigation under Section 409 had been concluded, with the Attorney General's Chambers deciding on No Further Action in June this year due to insufficient evidence.
"The case was reviewed again in August, with the same outcome. The complainant has been notified of the decision," he said in a statement.
As for the case under Section 420, investigations are still ongoing, with the police giving their assurance that investigations will be conducted fairly and transparently.
Ramli also addressed the allegations made by the TikTok user that the police lacked proper standard operating procedures in their investigations.
"The claims made by @BettyBanafee are false and irresponsible.
"All police reports received are investigated in line with existing laws, involving testimonies and evidence from relevant parties, including the complainant and suspects," he said.
He urged the public not to make baseless accusations, especially when investigations do not favour the complainant.
