TUMPAT: A man was arrested for impersonating an officer from General Operations Force (GOF)'s quick reaction force or locally known as the 'Ninja PGA' motorcycle squad, in a raid here on Tuesday.
In a statement today, GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the 31-year-old suspect was detained in a raid at a house in Taman Sri Neting.
He said the police also seized a car and a motorcycle which were used by the suspect in the activity.
"The police went to the house after receiving several reports from the public about a man who was posing as a GOF officer.
"After raiding the house around 11am, police arrested the suspect and seized the two vehicles worth about RM15,000," he added.
He said initial investigation showed that the suspect had been posing as a GOF member to blackmail diesel and petrol smugglers.
"He also was believed to have threatened locals suspected to be involved in smuggling activities. Among the areas for his activities are Nibong, Simpangan and Ular," he said.
The suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine, was being held for held for further investigation.
On another development, he said the GOF seized 1,000kg of smuggled rice worth about RM14,200 in an operation in Pasir Mas yesterday.
However, he said no one was arrested in the 10am operation at Bechak Demak.
