KUALA LUMPUR: One of the men caught in a viral clip assaulting a resident at one of the welfare homes allegedly managed by a company was among those arrested following police raids last week.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the suspect confessed to abusing children following the emergence of several viral videos involving the abuses.
"It just so happened that the suspect involved was among those arrested during our sweep on the 20 welfare homes last week," Razarudin said, referring to the 171 people arrested during the police raid in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
"The suspect has already confessed to abusing the victim, but the victim has yet to be identified," he added.
Razarudin also said to date, police have received two reports on children being caned repeatedly.
He said that one of the police reports was received in Kluang, Johor, yesterday by a man who is also the father of one of the children in the video.
"The complainant confirmed that the child in the viral video is his son who has been separated since 2021," he said.
Razarudin said another police report was received much earlier, before the start of Op Global.
This report, he said, was lodged by the grandfather of a child who was also abused in a viral video.
Razarudin said two investigation papers had been opened and classified according to Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Yesterday, it was reported that police believe that more evidence of abuse committed against children in welfare homes allegedly linked to Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holding (GISBH) will be uncovered soon.
Police detected several videos of children being abused, believed to have taken place in these homes.
Two such videos emerged on social media. One video, lasting one minute and nine seconds, showed a boy crying while a man knelt on his chest.
The man, who is off-camera, was heard asking why the child was crying and also pinched his nose.
"Why are you crying, do you want to die?" the man was heard saying.
Another 42-second video showed the boy being caned on the palm of his hand, causing him to writhe in pain.suspect, IGP, Razarudin Husain
