KUALA LUMPUR: Two Indonesians were fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here today for offering RM100 bribe to a policeman on Wednesday.
Manab, 29, and Mat Aris, 26, both employed as labourers, pleaded guilty to the charge read before judge Azura Alwi.
On Sept 25 at around 6pm, they attempted to bribe a police corporal as an inducement not to take action against them for not having valid travel documents.
The charge was framed under Section 17 (b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24 (1) of the same law.
The offence carries a maximum 20-year imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
The judge imposed a RM10,000 fine on both the accused, in default 12 months' jail and one-day of imprisonment.
Both failed to pay the fine and were sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Deputy public prosecutor Irna Julieza Maaras prosecuted.
