KULIM: "Enough with the lies, my child is no longer here. What wrong did my child do to deserve being a victim?"
That was the reaction of Mohammad Azhar Arzemi, 31, who expressed frustration after images and video recordings of his late son, Mohammad Bilal Yusra, were used by individuals believed to be scammers for personal gain.
According to Azhar, the incident was heartbreaking as Bilal had passed away nine months ago, yet some continue to take advantage of the situation.
He also lamented that the exploitation had been going on for a long time, even when Bilal was still alive.
"I have been aware for a while that people were using Bilal's pictures and videos, as I recall since I first shared his story on social media.
"All those who did so used fake accounts, and I found out after people asked me for clarification.
"Recently, I saw a video using my son's image on TikTok, and it deeply saddened me to think that they would dare do such a thing when my wife and I are still mourning his loss," he told Harian Metro.
Azhar said he intends to file a police report so that authorities can take action against those involved.
At the same time, Azhar urged the public not to fall for any individuals using old pictures or videos of his late son.
"I am indeed in financial difficulty and need funds for my eldest child, Nur Khaulah Al Azwar Mohammad Azhar, 5, to undergo follow-up treatment for her spinal condition.
"But when the old videos and images of Bilal are circulated, many misunderstand, thinking Bilal is still alive."
Previously, Harian Metro reported on Bilal's illness. He had suffered from skull deformities known as Alobar Holoprosencephaly.
As a result, his head grew to weigh up to 28kg.
On Dec 15 of last year, Bilal passed away in his parents' arms at their home in Kampung Sungai Ular.
