KLANG: The Customs Department has seized more than RM11.06 million worth of luxury vehicles, illicit beer, contraband cigarettes and chemicals.
Its director general, Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin, said they detected six vehicles in five containers following checks in North Port and West Port on Aug 22.
"Among the vehicles seized are a Porsche, two Mitsubishi Delica MPVs and a Toyota Harrier.
"Checks showed that the vehicles were worth RM792,000, including duties and taxes," she told reporters at Wisma Kastam in Pulau Indah on Monday.
She said the vehicles were brought in without valid import permits issued by the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry.
"These vehicles were brought into Malaysia via Port Klang on July 17 from an eastern Asia country.
"We believe the vehicles were meant to be sold in the local market here."
Anis Rizana said they also seized 79,104 litres of beer worth RM3.1 million.
"We detected five containers in North Port and West Port on Sept 26. The containers were supposed to carry steel truck rims.
"Our checks showed that the containers were filled with boxes of beer," she said, adding that the containers were brought into the country on Sept 1 from an eastern Asia country.
In an unrelated case, Anis Rizana said they seized 412 drums of undenatured ethyl alcohol (96 per cent) worth RM7.11 million.
"The Customs Field Operations Combat Team (Cobra) checked a warehouse in Port Klang on Sept 27 and found the liquid-filled barrels there.
"The barrels contained 67,980 litres of the chemicals worth RM7.11 million, including duties and taxes.
"The chemicals were believed to have been brought in without permits."
She said the substance was believed to be used to make hand santizer, fuel and culinary extracts.
Anis Rizana said they also seized 18,400 illicit cigarette sticks following operations on Sept 23 and Sept 25 at Taman Subang Mas in Petaling Jaya and Kampung Sungai Terap and Kampung Sungai Yu in Tanjung Karang.
