KOTA BARU: The state Immigration Department rounded up 65 illegal immigrants in a two-day operation here and in Tanah Merah which ended today.
State Immigration deputy director (management) Nik Akhtarulhaq Nik Abdul Rahman said the operation was conducted at 13 premises.
He said the operation which involved 18 officers, covered areas such as Jalan Bayam, Kampung Pintu Geng, Kampung Cherang and Kampung Jelatok.
"During the operation which started at 2pm yesterday, a total of 69 foreigners were inspected but only 65 were arrested.
"The 65 were detained for various offences such as entering the country illegally and overstaying," he said in a statement.
Nik Akhtarulhaq added that the 13 premises included sundry shops and workers' quarters.
The 65 immigrants were from Bangladesh (41), Pakistan (10), Thailand (eight) and Indonesia (six), all aged between 16 and 42.
"The 65 included four women. All have been sent to the department's detention centre in Tanah Merah for further action," he added.
